The Horses
Our horses are at the heart of everything we do. Every decision we make is guided by one simple principle: their welfare always comes first.
Our herd consists of Barbs, Arabians and Arab-Barbs – breeds renowned for their stamina, intelligence and kind nature. They are energetic, sure-footed and incredibly rewarding partners for experienced riders. Every horse has its own unique personality, and getting to know them is one of the highlights of staying with us.
Our herd consists mainly of stallions, alongside a few geldings. We always make this decision with the individual horse’s welfare in mind. Whenever a stallion can live a happy, balanced social life and work safely as a stallion, we see no reason to castrate him. However, if gelding is the better option for the horse’s wellbeing or for the safety, we do not hesitate to make that choice.
Providing our horses with a social life has always been one of our core values. They live together as much as possible in spacious paddocks where they can move, play, groom one another and simply be horses. When we started our ranch in 2010, there were no other stables on the island where stallions were kept together in a social environment. Although this is still uncommon in our region, we hope to show that, with careful management, stallions can enjoy a rich social life just like any other horse.
Our horses have unlimited access to high-quality hay, receive carefully balanced nutrition and benefit from regular veterinary, dental, osteopathic and hoof care. Whenever possible, they remain barefoot, with hoof management tailored to each individual horse.
We invest in well-fitting, high-quality tack and offer a range of English, Western, endurance, baroque and treeless saddles to ensure every horse is ridden in equipment that suits its individual build. Some of our horses are also ridden bitless, depending on what is most comfortable and safe for them.
To keep our horses healthy, motivated and happy, we deliberately keep more horses than we need for the number of riders we welcome. This allows every horse to enjoy regular rest days and ensures that no horse is overworked. Our responsibility also extends beyond their working lives. When one of our horses retires from carrying riders, it remains with us to enjoy the same care, companionship and peaceful retirement it has always known.
Our riding philosophy is based on lightness, balance and mutual respect. We enjoy riding at a forward pace whenever the terrain allows, but we never chase speed for its own sake. Calm, balanced riding keeps our horses confident, attentive and physically sound while allowing our guests to fully appreciate the island’s beautiful landscapes.
We believe that happy, healthy horses create unforgettable riding holidays. By choosing to ride with us, you are supporting a place where horsemanship, respect and horse welfare always come first.
